Dr. Ron Paul’s bid to secure the 2008 Republican presidential nomination has attracted widespread interest and attention. Although his stress on liberty and opposition to the Iraq war have often placed him at odds with others in the conservative movement, his fundraising totals have exceeded expectations and some predict that his vote could affect the overall outcome in several primary contests. At the same time, an influential analysis has suggested that there is a sizeable libertarian vote that could be won by either the Republicans or Democrats later in the year. This session considers the prospects for limited government in the US in the wake of the 2008 elections.
